Here is more information about ShopStyle and ShopStyle Collective's partnership with Rakuten and their Cash Back programs.
Rakuten purchased ShopStyle in April 2017 and ShopStyle launched our Cash Back program powered by Rakuten in May 2019. As part of the ShopStyle Collective team, we view this acquisition as a positive partnership for our Collective members. Our members are important to us and we are passionate about protecting your hard work! We wouldn’t have joined forces otherwise and we’d love to explain a little bit more about why we view it this way!
Shopping on the internet is subject to many, many inevitable pitfalls and some of them are listed here. The overall rule for shopping on the internet is that “the last click wins.” Simply put, this means that any platform that drops a cookie last will be the one to take credit for that shopper’s shopping trip. Because ShopStyle Collective is part of the Rakuten family, we are best positioned to assert control for our influencers (where the internet allows/is possible) and as a result, we suppress the Rakuten Rewards Cash Back pop-up that initially appears when shoppers land on a retailer's page.
For example, when you share a ShopStyle Collective affiliate link and one of your followers clicks on it and lands on the retailer’s site, the Rakuten Rewards Chrome Extension will remain silent if the click is coming from a ShopStyle Collective affiliate link. Be aware however! If a shopper manually activates Rakuten Rewards, then the shopping trip will be attributed to Rakuten Rewards, as the shopper is earning cash back with them. This would be true of any cookie-dropping platform that a shopper might activate. The suppression of the Rakuten Rewards pop-up is something that only ShopStyle and ShopStyle Collective have access to. If you’re shopping through any other network’s influencer link, the Rakuten Rewards module will pop up instantly when you land on the retailer’s site.
